Fire on Highway 16

Click to view intervalsToday I did 4×4-minute VO2Max intervals with four minute rest in between. I did them northbound on Highway 16. With a stiff headwind there was no problem with not having enough resistance, even on the downhill portions. Power was looking good but the last couple intervals were getting harder so I resisted the temptation to do more than four. On the way back I did a 20-minute LT interval which was fun with the strong tailwind. Nothing like going by Firebird Raceway at 25 MPH…uphill!

I did see an interesting sight; when I was approaching the “halfway” hill, I noticed smoke coming form the east side of the road. I thought maybe it was a farmer ditch burning or something, but as I got closer I saw that the Halfway Saloon was smok’n! There were a couple people walking around it and the smoke was pouring out of the doors and windows. If I wasn’t in the middle of an interval I probably would have stopped to take a picture! So during the remainder of my interval, I was confronted with a bunch of emergency vehicles heading to the fire. I counted four police vehicles and three fire trucks. Made for an exciting ride!
