Glad to be Outside

2006_12_08cropIt finally got warm enough to ride outside today! When I left my house it was sunny and 36°F. Since the haze seemed to be gone, I figured the sun would continue to warm things up as I left the house around noon. After a quick warm-up, I got right into a Tempo interval. I was so glad to be riding outside that I ended up pushing it at the upper end of Level 3. I was shooting for an hour and even though it didn’t hurt that bad, I was glad when that hour was over! As you can see my average power for the interval was 276 watts, right at the border between my Tempo (L3) and Lactate Threshold (L4) zones. So was it an hour at tempo? Or a 1×60?

On the way home, I threw in some sprints. I figured I should take advantage of being outside when I can. I also did a 1-minute test on my favorite testing ground—the new section of Can Ada Rd on the Hillsdale circuit race course. Didn’t break my YTD best, but just barely beat my PR since October 9th. The interesting thing about the ride was that it seemed colder out by Purple Sage Golf Course than it did near Eagle. So when I got home I did some research on MesoWest and learned that the west end of the valley hardly reached the upper thirties, while it hit 47° at the Boise Airport! My outside home thermometer recorded 43° as the max, right in the middle. Hmmm…I guess I rode the wrong direction! It would have been nice to get more time in, but between the tempo and the sprints, my legs were feeling it by the end. Total time was 2hrs 21mins with a TSS of 173.
